Update Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassador

Our CEO Marinus Noordenbos was appointed Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassador by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in January 2021.  In this honourable role, he will take the next steps in Hokkai’s mission to spread Japanese food culture in the Netherlands and Europe. In the past few months, we have developed some great plans and it is therefore time for an update from Marinus on his work as ambassador.

Hokkai Book

“We are going to make a book! It will be a collection of recipes, photography and stories about the culinary heritage of Japan. We will present a picture of Japanese cuisine through traditional products and dishes and their stories. At the moment, we are busy preparing the book. It is a long-term project, but it is definitely coming.

Hokkai & Friends

“We are proud of our seafood and therefore tell the story behind our ingredients in our section Hokkai & Friends. We introduce our suppliers and unfold our shared passion for Japanese food culture. Through my role as ambassador, I make even more friends in Japan. The Ministry introduces me to companies who want to export to Europe and are looking for a reliable partner. I can be a bridge between Japan and Europe, which is a great honour.

Behind the scenes

“We also want to give a glimpse into our own kitchen and therefore make videos from behind the scenes. We show what we do at Hokkai and how the products are treated before they end up in your freezer. Our Hokkai Tutorials show you step by step how best to prepare the fish products. Nothing stands in the way of you cooking authentic Japanese in your own kitchen and enjoying the most delicious dishes.

Japanese delicacies at wholesalers

“We are going to offer our authentic Japanese food products more widely. Currently, we already sell a number of fish products through luxury food wholesalers, such as Ebi-fry (breaded shrimp) and Wakame (seaweed salad). We are happy to expand our range there. We do this, for example, with various kinds of boiled seaweed. Seaweed is typically Japanese and also future-proof in an increasingly green world. In addition to seaweed, we will also be offering Takoyaki (octopus balls) and Okonomiyaki (small Japanese pizzas) via the wholesalers. In this way, we will be introducing Japanese food to as many Dutch kitchens and catering outlets as possible.”
